Concert / Projects

February 2012

Soloist, Tacoma Symphony Orchestra (Rialto Theater), Chopin F minor piano concerto

Maestro Harvey Felder, Conducting

“…fluid vocality by Seattle pianist Regina Yeh,…her gracious phrases underlaid with rapid-fire intensity. This was no mealy-mouthed Chopin, but a fiercely ardent Polish one, Yeh building each section onto the next with implacable logic and flawless virtuosity. In the second movement she connected the tender melody with gossamer threads of delicate passegiata, and in the third she danced over the leaps, scales and arpeggios with the ever-beautiful grace of a ballerina, never over-stated, and thoroughly deserving the standing ovation and armful of flowers given by an enthusiastic audience.” – Tacoma News Tribune, Feb. 2012.

Alec began studying in May of 2009 and it’s such a treat for him to be exposed to world-class music in this tiny coastal town…..your visit was a real treat.
Thank you for coming to Homer!"~Meg Cicciarella

Special Patron Concert and Party

"Thank you for a delightful event at the Wing Luke last Sunday. The setting was gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the program was fascinating. The interpretive guidance throughout the concert really made a difference in the level of appreciation that I had for the music. Storytelling is fundamental to human experience and making sure that the stories come alive when people listen to the music is a considerable achievement.
I thought the Japanese 4 Seasons piece worked particularly well with the explanation and the demonstrations. I don’t think anyone missed the Mount Fuji is Number One theme, the snowflake theme, or the icicle theme when they came around in the performance. Likewise with the transition to the minor mode for the humid summer followed by the typhoon." – John L. Kim, Executive Director, Northwest Hospital Foundation

"Dr.Yeh: I had pleasure of attending (as an observer) your recent Master Class in Portland with my piano teacher, Solveig Sorensen. Even though I am an adult beginner (really, a beginner), it was so wonderful to not only hear the pieces played by the talented young pianists, but then to see how you were able, in a few minutes, to totally transform and improve their playing. It may sound corny, but it really was thrilling. And I also learned a lot, and know now why my teacher spent time having me just drop my hands on the keys. :)."- Pamela Pescara

"I had the pleasure of hearing Regina Yeh give a recital at Portland State U. in November of 2006.  It was a stunning recital from start to finish. Her playing is imaginative and heartfelt.  She plays with style and flair and always with a tasteful ear.  I was impressed with the ease in which she played the most difficult technical passages.  Regina is a professional pianist in every regard.  I felt very lucky to be at the concert.  It’s one I won’t forget." – Linda Barker – Concert Pianist, former faculty University of Portland

"The recent master class with Regina Yeh was absolutely top-notch – thank you (and Helen) for bringing such an extraordinary teacher to us." – Mary Grant, Pianist and Teacher

"Such incredible fine points of performance make me marvel at the human capacity for expression. It’s amazing how just the tiniest angle or release of the hands make so much difference and how the whole body coordinates and supports each change. The part about the repetition, the discipline, the precision, perfection and finally the “release” is almost mind boogling. You’ve given me a gift in learning to fine tune my listening skills. I am most grateful to you for the education and the pleasure." – Shirley, audience member

Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, 8pm, New York, New York

Excerpts from New York Concert Review for May 27th, 2008, Weill Hall Carnegie Hall:

"Of all Ms. Yeh’s many virtues apparent at her recital, including her interesting programming, her easy manner in speaking about the music to her audience, and her obvious commitment to bridging East and West, it was the passionate involvement in her playing that most struck this listener.
She tore into Schumann’s Sonata in G minor (Op. 22) like a tigress, maintaining intensity throughout…. Ms. Yeh’s fiery musicality is wonderful……
Taiwanese Ma Shui-Long’s “A Sketch of the Rainy Harbor”…. Ms. Yeh absolutely sold the piece. Even if parts of the composition seemed to have surprisingly more West than East, it didn’t really matter, with such communicative playing, whether it was East, West, North or South….. two folk pieces, Ms. Yeh served as vital advocate…. Chopin’s Barcarolle, Op. 60, a loving adieu to the West, followed by Zhou Long’s brilliantly primitivist "Wu Kui."  An encore of Schumann’s Arabesque was meltingly beautiful."

National Flute Association Convention, Kansas City – Chamber Music Presentation with Donna Shin, flute and Shannon Spicciati, oboe

" The William Tell was delightful—an animated and inspiring display of rapid-tempo artistry by the three, playing in tight, crisp ensemble. The trio by Madeleine Dring was remarkable—with rich sonorities, rapid chase ‘scenes’ between the flute and oboe, and wry humor powered by the fine balance achieved by Shin, Spiccati, and Yeh.  This flute-oboe-piano Trio is a much-appreciated ‘window’ through which to glimpse the fun-loving, comical temperament of Madeleine Dring. Shin, Spicciati, and Yeh did a brilliant job of bringing this piece to life. Bravo!" –  (Ro Hancock-Child) Chamber Music Today, Aug 10th, 2008

"The evening was a stunning success. The music was beautiful, especially Paul’s Piano Quintet, and the performances were at the highest level. Also there was a large audience, and I had not seen most of them at anything at UW School of Music before. I find it wonderful when new music manages to be both technically perfect in construction and heartfelt and inspiring, all at the same time." – Dr. Gloria Swisher

"a triumph of adventurous programming and superb performances….wonderfully balanced!  I was honored to be its first composer-in-residence.  Congratulations for mounting this challenging and extremely worthwhile festival!" – Paul Chihara
